Where Israel was defeated by the Philistines and lost the ark of the covenant (1 Samuel 4). Identified with Tel Afek on the Sharon Plain (later rebuilt by Herod as Antipatris), now within a national park near Rosh HaAyin.

Multiple sources agree on the same coordinates for Tel Aphek (Antipatris). Note that there is also a place called Tel Aphek on the northern coast (near Mount Carmel) with the same name, so care should be taken not to confuse them.
